Does Budgie connect to my bank?#
No. Budgie does not connect to banks or financial institutions, initiate payments, or access your accounts. You record transactions yourself or import supported files from Database Tools.
Where is my financial data stored?#
Budgie is designed around local data and user-controlled backups. Keep a current backup in a safe location, especially before importing a large file, changing devices, or reinstalling the app. See Backup, restore, and export for the recommended workflow.
How do I move Budgie to a new phone?#
Create a backup on the old phone, copy it to a location you control, install Budgie on the new phone, and restore the backup before continuing to record transactions. Keep the original backup until you have checked accounts, balances, budgets, and schedules on the new device.
What is the difference between an import and a restore?#
An import adds mapped records to the current database. A restore replaces the current database with the selected backup. Make a backup before either operation so you can recover if the result is not what you expected.
Which files can I import?#
Budgie supports its general Single CSV format, Spendee CSV exports, and supported ExpenseIQ backup files. The Importing data guide includes required columns, examples, mapping rules, and skipped-row behavior.
Why are some imported rows skipped?#
Rows can be skipped when the account is missing, the date is invalid, the amount is zero or not numeric, or an ordinary income or expense has no category. Review the import log, correct the source data, and keep the original export until the imported balances and transactions have been checked.
How should I record a transfer?#
Use the source and destination accounts rather than recording two unrelated expenses. In a CSV import, provide ACCOUNT_FROM and ACCOUNT_TO; Budgie creates and links both sides of the transfer.
How do budgets and schedules differ?#
A budget tracks spending against a limit over a defined period. A schedule represents expected future activity, such as a bill or recurring income, and can help with reminders and projected balances. Use both together when you want to plan a limit and anticipate the transactions that affect it.
Does Budgie support multiple currencies?#
Yes. Accounts can use different currencies, and Budgie includes currency and exchange-related financial tools. Use a consistent currency for each account when importing data and review the account currency before relying on imported balances.
Is Budgie financial advice?#
No. Budgie is a record-keeping and planning tool. Its calculators and Insights help you explore your own data and scenarios; they are not financial, tax, legal, or investment advice.
